GRCA News Item: March 2015

The GRCA regrets to announce the sad news that a long time supporter of GRC / GFRC, Bud Molloy died at his home near Dallas, Texas, USA on 13th March 2015.

Bud had been involved with GFRC since the early 1970’s, initially with Owens Corning Fiberglass, then as a distributor for Nippon Electric Glass via his own company Molloy & Associates and as a partner in Fibre Technologies International in the UK before his retirement in 1995. He retained an interest in the GRC / GFRC market as a consultant until 2007 when he suffered a major stroke which left him wheelchair bound.

Bud was a key figure in establishing the use of GFRC in the construction industry in America. He served on several Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) committees helping to create the ground rules for the design and use of GFRC both in the USA and Worldwide. He also attended many GRCA Congresses and presented several technical papers. He once said that he was extremely proud to have been associated with something new.

Bud was a formidable character whose enthusiasm for GFRC never waned and he was always interested to receive the latest news. The lively debates with underlying good humour will be missed by all who knew him.
